CFO Certification and Sticker

If Overseas Filipino workers have POEA, then the counterpart for fiances, spouses and family of foreign national who plans to move to other country is Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO).

When the embassy release your visa (K1 and Spouse), you will be required to attend a CFO seminar and acquire a certificate and sticker. They said a lot of Filipinos skip this part and get offloaded in their flight because immigration will look for the sticker. Take note of your visa category for they have different seminar for each. For family member moving to foreign country sign up for PDOS, GCP for K1 and Spouse, EVP for J1 visa holder, and CFS for Au pair.

Steps on getting CFO certificate and sticker for K1/Spouse:

Login to cfo.ph and click Guidance and Counseling program. Read the instruction and requirements applicable to you. They only have 15 applicants per session, morning and afternoon. Click the GOAS link on where you prefer to attend your seminar. I clicked Manila since I lived nearby.

• answered all questions to determine if I need to attend. They sent me a mail to confirm. You will be directed to different webpage where you need to fill out a different form and choose a date of your session. Once completed, they will send a confirmation letter that you need to print out.

Gather all the applicable requirements you needed that is written in the appointment letter and prepare for the session date.

It is advised to arrive one and half hour early than your session time because you will fill out forms and they will take a photo of you that will be later printed on your CFO Certificate. At exactly 9 am we were called in USA session room. An old lady named Ms. Maya was our presenter. She showed us informative video about human trafficking and abuse and explained what to do if we encounter such incidents. They keep the seminar brief and short – about an hour and half, and then we were called individually for personal counseling. It’s like an embassy interview version 2.0 . The counsel (Ms. Maya) asked random questions about where I met my fiance, how the relationship works and requested to see our photos. After the friendly interrogation, Ms Maya asked for my passport and told me to go down in ground floor for certificate payment.

Note: If you did not pass the counseling – which usually happens if the counsel see some discrepancy on your relationship, they will not get your passport and will ask u to provide more relationship evidence.

So i went down and payed 400 php to the cashier. After less than 30 mins, they called my name, made me check my certificate if the infos printed are right, signed a couple more papers and viola! It’s all done!
